Student visa basics

Most international students need a Georgian study visa (category D3) before travelling. You apply online after receiving your university admission and enrollment documents. Citizens of some countries can enter Georgia visa-free and then apply for a temporary residence permit for study without a visa.

Typical documents for a D3 visa

  • Passport valid for the planned stay
  • University admission and enrollment documents
  • Proof of accommodation in Georgia
  • Health insurance
  • Proof that you can support yourself, such as a bank statement

Rules and lists of visa-free countries change, so always check the current requirements on the official Georgian e-Visa portal and the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We help you prepare the documents; see our visa and residence permit guide.

Georgia student visa planning

Does every international student need the same visa?

No. Entry and visa requirements depend on citizenship, residence status, travel document, and intended length of stay. Check the official Georgian Consular Services portal for the rules that apply to your nationality.

When should a student start visa planning?

Begin checking visa requirements before paying non-refundable travel costs. The university may need to issue enrollment or invitation documents first, and processing times can change. Keep passport validity, financial evidence, insurance, accommodation, and translated education documents ready when required.
